India is in a state of political uncertainty. The Bharatiya Janta Party has declared a state of red alert. L.K.Advani has long back been declared as the Prime Minister-in-waiting. Other parties have also declared their Prime Minister-in-waiting. Mayawati, Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh has proclaimed her agenda according to which she is determined to get seated as the first Dalit PM. Prakash Karat the CPM leader has expressed his desire to field Brinda Karat, his wife at the opportune time. The name of Rabri Devi is not being taken for the present, but the popularity Lalu enjoys practically with almost all the parties, he may spring a surprise at the appropriate time. In any case the list is long. Congress is undecided. Their stand is that this issue would be decided after elections, because it is the prerogative of the MPs to elect their leader. According to the Constitution majority party in Parliament elects its leader after the elections and such leader is sworn in as PM. Sonia Gandhi, the AICC President has asked the Party men to be prepared for elections. Prakash Karat & co. is threatening the UPA time and again not to go ahead with the Nuclear Deal, failing which they would withdraw support. Bharatiya Janta Party, which initiated the deal, is against the deal, because, as an opposition party it suits them. Mayawati has already withdrawn support from the UPA. The UPA is undecided about the deal. The question is whether the UPA would risk the Government. There do not seem to be any possibility that BJP would not destabilize the Government, as it did during the Prime Minister-ship of Nar Sinha Rao, because L.K.Advani, former Deputy Prime Minister is in a hurry to wear the crown of the PM. In the meanwhile Samajwadi Party has come to the rescue of the Government due to its own reasons.
The question is what is going to be the shape of the next Parliament. Is there any possibility for any party to get full majority. Everyone would say No! That means once again there would have to be a united Government of different political parties. Atal Behari Bajpai, the former PM was confronted by Mamta, Samta and Lalita, who saw to it that Bajpai is not able to work according to his capacity. There were pulls and pressures of various types, which somehow Bajpai could cope with, but the trio of Mamta, Samta and Lalita continued to harass and black mail Bajpai till the end. So is happening with the present PM Man Mohan Singh. He is working under the threat which is looming large from the side of the Communists. In these circumstances what is the alternative.
Recently Sudarshan, the RSS Chief has called upon the BJP and Congress to form the next Government with support of each other. Is this possible? The fact is that whether it is Ram Setu issue, or Nuclear deal issue or any other issue, all these issues were initiated at the time of BJP Government and now Congress is going forward to implement them. Even if you come to discuss the Ayodhya Ram Mandir issue, the fact remains that the lock of the Ayodhya Ram Temple was unlocked by Congress, when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India. Further till yesterday Congress had a pro-Russia tinge. But today things are different. The Congress is also pro America. As for BJP, it was always pro America. Naturally therefore they have become complimentary to each other. In order to give a stable Government, the BJP and the Congress have to think in terms of working together. The fact is they are working together, as is clear from the above. They may share power in commensurate with their strength. If such a time comes, there is no doubt India would be enjoying a stable Government and the black-mail of the smaller parties would be a thing of the past. But is it really possible?
Alternatively, one of them can form the Government for the period in proportion to their strength. The other party may extend outside support. This experiment has already been made in various States. Two arch rivals sharing the same plat-form or giving out side support is just unthinkable. It is also part of history that minority Government of Nar Simha Rao completed its five year term with the outside support of BJP. Every thing is fare in love and war. Let the people first give their verdict.

If you have read LK Advani's recent book or heard his interviews, then you would realize that Congress and BJP coming together is an impossibility. For one simple politcal reason: "the moment they come together to form government, they will leave entire space for Opposition party to the Leftists + sundry regional parties"..
This will never be allowed by Advani who is a staunch nationalist and Congress who are aware of the dangers of this. In democracy both the major space (Ruling and Opposition) must be occupied by 2 major parties and NO third entity must be allowed to dictate terms there. Especially if the motivations of 3 entity is dubious.

Congress and BJP coming together in a government is impossible. It is true that BJP is banking on hard Hindutva and congress is adopting soft Hindutva to gain or retain power. It is strange that RSS should suggest this. If Congress and BJP want to come together, BJP should drop RSS ideologies or Congress should adopt RSS ideologies. Both these cannot happen.
If two parties come with the cadre strength like BJP (read RSS) and political maturity and secular base as old congress it will be good for the country. One can be in the opposition and the other ruling alternately switching power only on incumbancy factor is a healthy proposition for India.
